How to get More Budget for Corporate Video Production

A professionally produced corporate video, with a strong concept, can be a powerful tool for training, marketing, branding, or communications in general. It can be used to increase the company’s public presence, and support you in selling an idea to your clients, your colleagues, or your Board of Directors.

Creating a video might be a great idea, but before the production can begin you’ll need to justify the expense to the person responsible for budgeting at your organization. After all, every company is keenly interested in increasing the bottom line, so any potential video project will be judged by how well it contributes to this purpose. So before you can use a video as your sales tool, you first need to ‘sell’ the idea of making the video in the first place!

So how to best make the case?

When you get an idea for a video, don’t run to your boss right away asking for funding. Do your homework first. Think it through and anticipate the questions that might be asked. How much will it cost? How will it bring value to our organization? What are the alternatives? Who will oversee the project? A little bit of planning can provide the right answers to all those questions. You might also want to consider asking others for help. If you need help understanding what’s involved in the production of a video and the costs involved, please feel free to contact us so we can answer your questions and help you make your case.

What if there isn’t enough money in your department’s budget to sponsor your project? If shifting the already allocated resources is not an option, you should consider cooperating with other departments within your organization that might also benefit from your video production project. If you’re making a video for advertising, check with the team responsible for branding and see if they could use the video as well. Maybe it can also be used for training and other purposes. If that’s the case, you can ask other departments to join in on the project and contribute financially. If done right, this can increase your available budget substantially. And a bigger budget means better production values and a generally more effective video.

START DATE
Immediate. We prefer interns who can commit to at least 3 days per week, but we are also interested in interns who can work “on call” as needed.

PAY
Stipend, with the possibility of increases and eventual paid work.

REQUIRED
Excellent FCP editing skills are a MUST. Also important: Photoshop, research skills, some production experience, as well as creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude. Motion graphics skills and understanding of Social Media are a big plus. Great phone skills are critical, as we will count on you answering phones.

HOW TO APPLY
Write a brief description of yourself and why you would make an excellent intern.

Include links to on-line examples of your work, and tell us exactly what you did on each example you are sending.

Provide at least 3 references (WE CHECK ALL REFERENCES) and your resume.

Did you know that Manhattan’s largest daily newspaper is NOT the New York Times, or the Daily News, or the New York Post? It’s actually AM New York! This very popular newspaper asked us to create a fun and fast-paced promo for them, and so we did. First we sent our video crews all over town to capture interesting scenes and happenings. Then our editors logged the 10 hours of footage collected, and we cut this kinetic video montage:

Behind the Scenes: Jeff Koons’ Balloon Flower

Legendary American artist Jeff Koons had his “Balloon Flower (Blue)” auctioned at Christies last night, where it sold for $16,882,500. Daaaamn! The Indigo team videotaped the unwrapping of the sculpture as a time lapse sequence. Our crew started shooting at 9:00pm and finished at 5:00am the following day.
